 STOP BREATHING
"What I Want" EP

I love when a record surprises and excites me when I'm starting to feel jaded, and STOP BREATHINGS's EP has done the trick. What I Want is boss from start to end, with a style reaching that nether region where '81 hardcore meets late '80s power-chord roughness. That's a pretty good place to be in my book. Four songs and all of them are up-tempo hardcore smashers. The lyrics on a couple are pretty impressive, like "The Eye" which begins as an observation of doomsday theories prevalent today, then laments that we're bringing about our own destruction, and climaxes with a screaming call to arms to make change and save ourselves instead of waiting for the end. The greedy American lifestyle is the main target here. Awesome. (BG)
